Be The Change You Wish See in the World

blog pic.jpgThis is a famous quote from Gandhi. This has never be more applicable than when I became a parent.

I was brought up to always respect my parents and to never talk back even if I believed my parents were wrong.

I then realised that to give respect it must be earned not demanded. My son has always been my biggest button pusher but he is also my biggest teacher. Not until recently it has dawned on me that how can ask him to stop shouting or being violent with his words if I am doing the same. Even If I am older than him and his parent, he has every right to speaks how he feels especially if disagrees with me.

I can only be responsible for how I react, not how anyone reacts to me. The truth is what anyone does, thinks or says is nothing to do with me.

So on this journey,

as I live it,

I realise I am not my experiences,my beliefs, my thoughts or feelings.

Those are things that I experience.

Deep down, when I let go I discover who I am and who you are.

I remember I am a human BEING and so are you.

I stop making it about me.

I remember who you are.

You are me and I am you.

“Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.” ~Carl Jung

Always remember to be kind to yourself as you start taking responsibility for all your actions.  One step at a time.  A journey starts with a single step.  It takes practice and you will get there.

As you start to make changes in your life, you then can think about making the a difference for others.  It doesn’t have to be something tremendous.  Little things, such as smiling or greeting others with a “Good Morning”.

Do one act of kindness each day of the year and change 365 lives, one step at a time.
