When someone you care about hurts you, you can hold on to anger, resentment and thoughts of revenge — or embrace forgiveness and move forward.
We may get hurt in our lives by the acts of others whether it is something someone says or does to you or someone else. If we don’t forgive that person, we may never be able to move forward. It is like the snake bite, it is not the actual bite that will kill you, it is the poison of the bite that will kill you unless you find away to get it out. Like the poison, if you are holding on to the anger it will fester, like the poison. You will never be able to move on and forward.
The funny thing about forgiveness, if you don’t practice it, you will never be able to let go to move forward and once you keep forgiving you will find you will be able to let things go and forgiveness is no longer necessary.
That is what I have found. My father died of cancer when I was 18 and for years I had held on to the memory of his death and how painful it was. I couldn’t even talk about his death without it bringing tears to my eyes.
I actually eventually learnt a process on forgiveness, in fact it was a decision to forgive myself, others and all situations to allow myself to let go of all the stories and now it’s easy to let things go. Life is much easier. Actually I found there is nothing to forgive because it’s just a story in my mind.
You can start by thinking of a person you are angry at or a situation you have experienced and cannot let go of it. Experience your emotions and feelings and give yourself permission to let go. Let go of each feeling as it comes up, bad and good. Let yourself become empty until there is nothing left. Now think of that situation or person, how do you feel? Can you now forgive them? If you still feel negative emotion, then use this to experience it and let it go. You may find that you are the person you need to forgive.
Can you relate to this? Let me know your opinions?
