Yoga for Anxiety Relief When Your Mind Won’t Slow Down
Yoga for anxiety relief doesn’t have to mean finding an hour in your day or trying to completely empty your mind. Sometimes, when everything feels like too much, what you really need is a few minutes to slow down, breathe and give your body a chance to settle.
Have you ever noticed how anxiety can appear before you’ve even realised you’re stressed? Your shoulders become tense, your breathing gets shorter, your thoughts start jumping from one thing to another, and suddenly even simple things can feel harder than they should.
When that happens, our instinct can be to keep going and hope the feeling passes. But what if instead of pushing through it, you gave yourself 13 minutes?
That’s why I created Calm & Centered: Quick Yoga for Anxiety Relief — a short, gentle practice to help you step away from the noise, reconnect with your body and create a little more calm.
Why Yoga for Anxiety Relief Can Feel So Different
When your mind is busy, trying to think yourself into feeling calmer isn’t always easy.
It’s kind of like trying to smooth ripples on water with your hands. The more you interfere with the water, the more ripples you create. Sometimes you have to stop interfering and give the water an opportunity to settle.
Your mind can be a little like that too.
Yoga gives you something different to focus on: your breath, your body and the movement you’re making right now.
Instead of asking yourself to suddenly stop worrying, you begin by doing something much simpler — noticing.
Notice your feet on the mat. Notice your breathing. Notice where you’re holding tension. Notice how your body feels as you move.
Little by little, your attention comes away from everything happening around you and returns to what’s happening within you.
What Happens When You Slow Everything Down?
When we’re anxious or overwhelmed, we can spend a lot of time in our heads.
What if this happens?
What have I forgotten?
What do I need to do next?
Sound familiar?
Gentle movement combined with slower, more conscious breathing can help interrupt that constant stream of thinking. Rather than forcing yourself to relax, you’re creating the conditions that make relaxation easier.
That’s an important difference.
Yoga isn’t about pretending that the things worrying you don’t exist. Your responsibilities will still be there when you finish.
But you may return to them feeling a little calmer, clearer and more grounded. And sometimes, that small shift is exactly what we need.
You Don’t Need An Hour To Look After Yourself
One of the biggest barriers to wellness is the belief that we don’t have enough time for it. Maybe you’ve caught yourself thinking, I’ll look after myself when things quieten down.
But when does life really become completely quiet? This is something I’ve learnt through years of practising and teaching wellness: it doesn’t always have to be another big thing we squeeze into our lives.
Sometimes wellness is what we do within the life we already have.
Thirteen minutes of yoga.
A few conscious breaths.
A moment when you stop rushing and check in with yourself.
These small practices may not look dramatic, but repeated regularly, they can become a way of reminding yourself to pause before you reach the point of feeling completely overwhelmed.

If you’re feeling tense, mentally overloaded or simply in need of some quiet, I’d love you to experience the practice rather than just read about it.
Calm & Centered is a gentle 13-minute class you can practise at home. You don’t need to be particularly flexible or experienced in yoga. Simply bring yourself, your mat and a willingness to slow down.
As we move, I’ll guide you to connect with your breath, release some of the tension you’ve been carrying and bring your attention back into the present moment.
A Little Calm Can Change The Rest Of Your Day
You don’t have to wait until anxiety becomes overwhelming before giving yourself some support.
Imagine what might change if, instead of automatically pushing through those moments, you recognised them as a signal to pause.
Not for an hour.
Not for an entire afternoon.
Just long enough to breathe, move and reconnect.
Your wellness journey doesn’t have to begin with a dramatic change. It can begin with 13 minutes today.
