Lets Talk Wellness….Happy Diwali, Reigniting the Light Within Us!

Today is Diwali or Deepawali

The term ‘Deepavali’ literally translates to a row of lights, with “deep” meaning light and “avali” meaning row, earning it the moniker, “the festival of lights”. The lighting of diyas signifies the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and wisdom over ignorance. This is linked to the ancient legend of Lord Rama, who was deprived of his kingdom and sent into exile for 14 years. Diwali celebrates Rama’s eventual defeat of the evil spirit Ravana, and his triumphant return to his home.

So how can we reignite that light within us? That’s what we will talk about today.

Even after all this time the sun never says to the moon,

You owe me, Look what a love like that does.

 It lights the whole sky.

Be a Beacon of Light

Many times people tell me about things that are happening to someone they know and they feel helpless, they don’t know what to do and they become increasingly worried, frustrated and tired. Or sometimes our buttons are pressed and we end up reacting in a negative way.

When someone you care about hurts you, you can hold on to anger, resentment and thoughts of revenge — or alternatively you can embrace forgiveness and move forward.

In the bible, Luke 23:34, it states…

Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

All situations are like a storm….

You can’t calm the storm …..so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself.  The storm will pass.

Do you know there is a spiritual solution to all problems. Everything is energy  It all starts with a thought.  Getting worried, frustrated or angry all start with a thought and we then send this energy to the very people we care about, when all we want to do is be supportive. Buddha, Saint Francis of Assisi and Mother Theresa have provided beautiful solutions to our problems and to how to respond to people and life. They are bringing light to the darkness.

Being Charitable

Once, a very poor man came to Buddha. He asked:

“Why am I so poor?”

Buddha answered:

“You are poor because you don’t practice generosity. You don’t practice charity.”

”But how can I practice charity if I don’t have anything to give?”

“You have five treasures that you can share with others.”

First, you have your face. You can share your smiles with others. It’s free. And awesome. And has an amazing impact on others.”

“Second, you have your eyes. You can look at others with eyes full of love and care.. Genuinely you can impact millions.. Make them feel so good.”

“Third, you have your mouth. With this mouth you can say nice things to others. Talk good. Make them feel valued. Spread joy and positivity.”

“Then, you have a heart. With your loving heart you can wish happiness to others.. Make others feel a bundle of emotions.. Touch their lives.”

“Last treasure that you possess is your body.. With this body you can do many good things to others. Help the people who need. Help is not money.. A small caring gesture can light up lives.”

The Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in self-forgetting that we find;
And it is in dying to ourselves that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

Mother Teresa’s Poem –The Final Analysis

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone may destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and God;

It was never between you and them anyway.”

Sending a prayer

I choose not to put you down when you are down, nor will I judge you negatively.

If I can help you then I choose to inspire you, it is up to you if you want to accept the inspiration or not.

This is my prayer to you…

May the long time sun shine upon you.

All love surround you,

And the pure light within you guide your way on.

(This is a Kundalini Yoga prayer).

I know for a very long time I felt guilty that I could not save my dad, who died of cancer. I realised that I did everything I could. I helped him quit smoking but he still developed cancer years later. The moral of this story, people are their own creators of their lives. I can only have control over my own response. So I can choose to hate them, love them or find a solution to help them. But they should have the OPTION to be their own creator. As my children becoming older this is more prevalent. I can show them the way but what they decide to do and what they create is on them. I don’t need to judge them or make them wrong for the choices they make. They should have the freedom to make their own choices.

These prayers have helped me to refocus. I have also sent the prayers to people I care for and even people I haven’t got to know.

We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.” ― Galileo Galilei

Beacon of Light… Varin Gill

Hi all

This year I have been blogging about amazing individuals who are Beacons of Light, they bring light where there is darkness. Their compassion to serve humanity inspires me.

One such person is Varin Gill, who I have known for 20 years. She decided to move from a career in financial management to a complete focus on self-alchemy.

Varin started her spiritual journey 20 years ago in LA learning Primordial Sound Meditation from Dr Deepak Chopra himself. She’s since learnt Egyptian energy healing, is a Hatha yoga RYT 200 teacher, intuitive tarot reader and a Drum & Vowel Sound healer. She was also initiated as Priestess of Hathor at the Great Pyramids, Cairo.

All her healing work is her own healing journey of self-love. Creating sexuality circles are part of her personal healing journey.

I interviewed her to find out more about sexuality circles and how they can help with wellness. Here is her interview, enjoy…
